Client: British Land (Pillar Property PLC)
Project: Manchester Fort Shopping Park
Size: 316,000 sqft
Role: Project Manager & Employer's Agent
Construction of a large new high quality shopping park in Manchester providing 35 retail units and 1 restaurant.
The contract was let as a design and build package to HBG Construction.
Construction work commenced in 2003 and continued through until October 2005. Substantial site remediation was necessary, as the majority of the site was formerly a refuse tip. Work was undertaken in two main phases to allow for the relocation of existing site occupiers into newly constructed accommodation, prior to demolition of their existing buildings.
Rowney Sharman understood the client's culture and successfully managed the contractor, consultants and the tenants to ensure a high quality park was delivered incorporating the landlord's and the tenant's specific requirements.
The final shopping park dramatically enhances the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester and has acted as a catalyst for regeneration and provided much needed local employment.
