This project comprised the demolition of existing buildings, extensive enabling works consisting site levelling and building retaining structures and the construction and fit-out of 68 high quality apartments.
We were engaged by Redrow to project manage the design and construction of this prestigious scheme. The apartment block was constructed on pad foundations comprising a concrete frame and slabs with a mixture of brick cavity walls and curtain walling. The internal apartments were constructed using dry line partitions and included fully fitted kitchens and bathrooms.
The major challenge was the construction of the building on an important town centre site in a busy town. The site posed a number of particularly difficult problems as site levels varied greatly and there was also limited access. Another peculiarity of the site was its close proximity to Fort Amherst which was built as a fortification in the 1750's. Our role included negotiations with those responsible for the Fort to relocate a number of ancient cannons that are regularly fired in the direction of the Redrow site, blanks of course!
