Client: States of Jersey Tourism
Project: New build and fit out of new public building
Size: 10,000 sq ft
Role: Client's Representative
On 45 square miles of land steeped in history, Liberation Place now marks the beginning of a new public space for Jersey on the site that once housed the Island's abbatoir.
Retaining the existing listed façade was a key factor in the design of the new building and the granite wall was carefully dismantled, numbered and re-built to include the newly restored gun emplacement which as been embedded of the site of the new Tourism building. To a large extent the curve of the existing screen wall dictated the circular design for the building. Fully glazed elevations on all sides allow extensive views out across the bay and into the bustling financial district of St Helier.
The light, airy interior of the building comprises 10,000 sq ft of accommodation over five floors, including a new tourism visitor information centre, open plan working space and a top-floor media and conference suite. The interior design scheme fully reflects and complements the corporate Jersey brand, whilst the external materials and finishes have been chosen to reflect the maritime character of their surroundings.
