About This Project

Whiteley Shopping Centre, the £84 million retail and leisure development opened in May 2013.

91% let at opening, the centre has 58 shops and restaurants which are a combination of local independent retailers and well-known brands. Anchored by a 60,000 sq ft M&S, other tenants include: Boots, Fat Face, H&M, Next, Mamas & Papas, Frankie & Benny’s, Prezzo and Tesco.

Whiteley Shopping Centre represents the latest in retail design. Whiteley became the first UK shopping centre to achieve a BREEAM 2008 ‘Excellent’ rating. 100% sustainable timber panelling, extensive landscaping and specially commissioned public art all contribute to the streetscapes of the centre being as much of a destination as the shops and restaurants themselves.

Rowney Sharman’s role on Whiteley involved managing the project from inception, through the planning, design, procurement and construction phases, to successful completion. Rowney Sharman liased directly with all tenant teams through the Agreement for Lease process as well as the management of the tenant fit out programme. Our services are being continued through to Phase 2, a multiplex cinema.

Rowney Sharman worked collaboratively with the other landlord consultants to ensure sustainability measures were implemented such as fit-out sustainability requirements in occupiers’ leases to help them improve energy, carbon and water efficiency, reduce bills and ensure compliance with BREEAM.

Now trading, Whiteley Shopping Centre will serve the 1.2 million person catchment, a significant shopping destination.
