In conjunction with Malcolm Reading Consultants, Rowney Sharman were the Project Manager’s for the pre-construction phase for the major refurbishment and extension of this grade 1 listed, building.
The project has delivered new exhibition space, world class archive storage for the museum’s 3M+ collections, a restaurant, café and landscaped public realm.
An early task was to introduce control of the moving project aspirations. Working closely with the Internal Project Manager, the Project Brief was developed and approved by all of the internal stakeholders; a rigorous control procedure was then introduced.
Significant challenges on this project included the need to confer with and satisfy multiple high profile stakeholders including the private benefactor, English Heritage, the Heritage Lottery Fund, adjoining landowners and various other national and local government organisations.
The National Maritime Museum is part of the World Heritage Site and therefore subject to high public scrutiny. Part of the role was to assist the client with the consultations to maximise the public support and minimise the impact on the local community during construction.
