16 Sep Orbital Shopping Park honours the Battle of Britain
Shoppers will have noticed something extra special at Orbital Shopping Park, Swindon, from Sunday 13 September to Tuesday 15 September 2015.
As part of the events to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, full size replicas of a Spitfire and Hurricane were displayed at the Shopping Park. Orbital Shopping Park is co-sponsoring the event which honours local Hurricane Hero, Squadron Leader Harold Starr and the 544 RAF pilots killed during the battle.
Shoppers were able to learn more about the historic events which led to the 16 week battle and explore the cockpits of the Hurricane and Spitfire. The events, arranged by Swindon Heritage, finished on the Battle of Britain Day itself, 15th September, with a RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight making a flypast over the centre of Swindon in four Spitfires and two Hurricanes.
The refurbishment and part redevelopment of the park continues, to bring a revitalized shopping experience for Swindon residents. Plans are also underway at Orbital to introduce a Spitfire themed artwork to the park, as part of the Park’s makeover.
